New research out from researchers at the West China Hospital looking at the effects of TRT on lower UT Symptoms. They examined 21 randomized control trials based on aging men with late-onset hypogonadism (2453 total participants) in relation to lower urinary tract symptoms.
Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms can be defined as:
- Feeling like you can’t empty your bladder or that your bladder fills up too quickly.
- Having greater amounts of urine than normal.
- Having sudden urges to pee that are difficult to control.
- Needing to pee frequently, including in the middle of the night.
- A bladder that seems to fill up very quickly.
The researchers looked at several prostate related measures: International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level, or prostate volume.
A meta-analysis was performed based on the rate of administration: Oral, Transdermal, or Intramuscular.
Results:
There were no significant differences in IPSS, PSA level, or prostate volume between TRT routes. The results demonstrate that TRT does not worsen Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms regardless of the administration route.
